Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic Surgery also known as minimally invasive surgery is a surgical procedure performed to treat gastro intestinal diseases. Laparoscopic surgery employs very sophisticated equipment and has many advantages over open surgery.
How is Laparoscopic Surgery Performed?
During traditional open surgery, the surgeon makes a large incision/cut in the abdomen. While performing laparoscopic surgery the surgeon makes 3-5 small incisions in the abdomen. The laparoscope, a specialized instrument with a camera mounted on top will be used to view the insides of the abdomen. Other surgical tools are inserted through the incisions to perform the surgery. The patient won’t feel the pain as he will be under general anesthesia. Once the surgery is performed doctor will remove the laparoscope and the incisions are closed with stitches.
